mamma’s tips for a DIY disco party
/Ready to turn your lounge room into a sparkly, music-filled disco party? Here’s how to throw an epic DIY home disco the kids (and adults) will love!
Set the Vibe
Turn off the bright lights and swap them for fairy lights, battery-powered LED strips, or a cheap disco ball light from Kmart or Big W. Even a few glow sticks and flashing toys will add to the fun.
Create a Dance Floor
Clear some space in the living room, garage or backyard. Add a few balloons or streamers for colour. Use masking tape to mark out a ‘stage’ or dance battle zone!
Build an Epic Playlist
Make a playlist packed with crowd-pleasers - think Taylor Swift, Bruno Mars, old-school party anthems, and kids’ faves like ‘Happy’ and ‘Can’t Stop the Feeling’. You can also throw in a few classic disco hits for the grown-ups.
Party Props & Dress Ups
Set up a basket with glitter glasses, feather boas, glow sticks, and hats. Encourage everyone to dress in their sparkliest, brightest outfits. Bonus points for sequin jackets!
Games & Challenges
Add in a few disco-themed games:
Freeze Dance
Limbo
Dance-Off Battles
Best Air Guitar Performance
Prizes? Think mini lolly bags, glow bracelets, or temporary tattoos.
Go a Little Extra
There are so many budget friendly karaoke machines available these days, add one in for some extra (loud) fun. The kiddos will love it, just be prepared for the noise they’ll make singing their hearts out to their fave tunes.
Snack Table Glow-Up
Serve easy finger food like popcorn cups, mini sliders, and fairy bread. Add edible glitter to cupcakes and coloured cordial in clear cups for that disco sparkle.
Capture the Fun
Set up a little photo booth corner with a sparkly backdrop and some silly props. Use a phone tripod or just snap away for some hilarious memories.
Hire an Entertainer
If it all feels a bit much, you can always check out these amazing entertainers to keep the kiddos occupied!
Now you can throw a feel-good disco party at home with good tunes, good vibes, and happy little dancers guaranteed!
